Sometimes all it takes is a moment of stopping to notice something wonderful that brings you back to yourself. That's what I'm seeing more and more.
I've noticed that when I'm up in my head I get so preoccupied that I don't see the surprise and the delight and the beauty that's all around me.
Something waiting for me to notice it so it can reach out and make me smile and shift my sense of life.
Something that breaks the spell of autopilot or responding out of habit rather than presence.
I'm guessing most everybody knows what it means to come back to yourself. For me, it means intentionally moving my attention away from the interminable thoughts that I can so easily get lost in and then I forget what's already available to me.
Right under my nose.
And when I am open to taking those moments to stop and notice what else is here, right in front of me, waiting to show me what else is possible,
my state of mind unlocks,
my breathing softens,
my eyes lose that tight focus born from being on high alert,
I feel my heart beating,
my chest moving in and out with the breath,
I think more clearly, my body relaxes, and I see new possibilities.
and I notice with gratitude that I can actually be at rest wherever I am.
Who wouldn't want that?
