Inspiration: Invite It Into Your Life

How many of us can say our lives are filled with inspiration? Or even know how to recognize it when it comes to us? If you like the idea of living an inspired life, here are 7 ways to know it and to bring it into your life.
First of all, what is inspiration? It’s been described as creative energy: the instantaneous awareness of connection or possibility that transcends what you might figure out with your logical mind. Inspiration reveals the solution to a problem or an answer you’ve been seeking. It may come to you as an idea which is already whole and complete, ready to be brought into physical form.
Whether you describe it as divine energy or channeled Spirit, inspiration always brings a sense of the transcendent. It feels as though something greater than you is visiting, working through you, offered to you as a gift.

What do you feel when inspiration comes to you? Time as you normally experience it is altered, your senses become heightened, your awareness increases and you see the world differently. You‘ve become a vehicle through which this mysterious, irresistible wholeness appears. It becomes irresistible, like a calling, wanting to be expressed and in the process, brings deep fulfillment. You can’t control it, but you can step aside and invite it in.
How do you know you’ve been inspired? There’s a resonance, a recognition, of a way of knowing that is effortless, undeserved and transformative, an expanded understanding and a sense of deep connection. Your way of being in the world deepens, softens and becomes aligned with who you really are.
For many of us, this way of living is what we’re longing for. Artists and scientists (think Mozart and Einstein) are probably the most common examples of getting out of the way and allowing this “visitation” to occur. But all of us are capable of putting ourselves in the right state of mind to invite inspiration into our lives. How do you do it? Follow these steps and you’ll find your life transformed from ordinary to extraordinary:

But all of us are capable of putting ourselves in the right state of mind to invite inspiration into our lives. How do you do it? Follow these steps and you’ll find your life transformed from ordinary to extraordinary:
- Begin to investigate what it means to allow, to surrender. If you’re open to putting aside your opinion of how things should be done, there’s no limit to what the Universe can bestow upon you.
- Be willing to affirm what’s true and meaningful to you. Who benefits if you’re only going through the motions of living?
- Feel into what you’re doing so that you’re acting from integrity and alignment rather than someone else’s expectations for you.
- Experiment with being open to life as a mystery - do you really know what’s going to happen next or is that just a habit that prevents you from experiencing something new and unexpected?
- Pay attention to the signs: if your body feels contracted and shut down, find out why. Our bodies let us know when we’re not in alignment with what’s best for us.
- If you’re using sheer will power to get through your day, your life or whatever responsibilities you have, let yourself take a stop and ask to be shown a better way.
- Be willing to consider the idea that you, too, be a vessel for the expression of the infinite. That will allow you to recognize - and let go -of any tendency to compare yourself with others or some fictitious version of yourself.
